Fathers Day. When I woke and ventured down the stairs of our holiday house I was almost mistaken that it was Mothers Day. The kids were dressed and eating breakfast and the mystery of our street closure was revealed as a second hand market had sprung up - one of my favourite past times. After breakfast and the gift giving ceremony I nipped out for a quick look. They were selling everything from car tyres to card games. It was amazing and it's lucky we aren't living here as the bank balance would be a lot lighter with some stalls selling old farm things that would look fabulous in the garden. When the sun had come up a bit more, and we had skyped Jenny and Alf back in Scotland, the whole family ventured out to see what the Bourg d'Oisan annual fair had to offer. There were market stalls selling new and old, fun fair rides that the kids sampled, and much to Callum's delight the local fire brigade had brought their engines along so he and Heather climbed aboard. Callum's smile was a mile wide and he sat on top of the engine with the ladder towering above him. It was cool. At the other end of town there was animals to pat and ride on. The kids got a ride on a pony called Asterix. He was so small that we thought Heather would be too big but the man assured us Asterix was very strong. It was a lovely day and, as the weather forecast predicted rain, it was an added bonus that the sun was shining brightly with only a few fluffy clouds floating by. The afternoon was spent at home relaxing and with a quick game of boules in the back garden (it was quick as Callum started to cheat and pinch the little black ball). Neil enjoyed his day and is looking forward to "bagging" another two Tour de France climbs tomorrow. It will be a long day as they are right in between this accommodation and the next one so a bit of a drive to get there. We are not joining him as there is nothing to entertain the kids while Neil is riding. That said we will be off to the laundrette and domestic duties.
